P C Jersild

 

P C Jersild is a physician, social debater and one of Sweden’s most beloved authors. His novels often combine the present and the future, such as En levande själ (1980), Efter floden (1982) and De ondas kloster (2003) and many also formulate a sharp critique of society and its flaws. His first novel, Räknelära, was published in 1960 and his work currently spans 40 books. The modern classics Barnens ö and Babels hus have been made into motion pictures and his books have been translated into sixteen languages. Jersild has won several litterary awards, including Stora romanpriset, De nios stora pris, Selma Lagerlöfspriset and Övralidspriset. He is also a celebrated columnist at Dagens Nyheter. PC Jersild holds an honorary doctorate at Uppsala University’s department of Medicine and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He is also a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Science.
